2021.02.27 Online Tea Party "Night Joke"
On February 27th, I held an online tea ceremony from my home in New York City, mainly to connect New York and Japan. It started at 8pm in Japan and 6am in New York. The event was held on the night of the full moon in Japan and just as the sun was rising in New York.
About 40 people participated in the event.
The event was organized in collaboration with Art Gallery Miyauchi in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan where I held a tea ceremony called "White scape" a few years ago.
In that vein, I invited Imai Miharu (
今井 みはる
) , a curator of Art Gallery Miyauchi as the guest of honor.In order to the online this time, I shared light, wind, and water to create Ichiza-konryu(to build the seated-as-one experience).
A Japanese candle in a nighttime performance and live images of Times Square in central New York are transmitted to the screen of a smartphone or tablet, and participants shine the light on the wall and watch.
Through the swaying light of the Japanese candles, participants will be able to feel the atmosphere of the New York wind.
Each participant was asked to prepare their own tea, matcha, or sencha, but for water, I specified Crystal Geyser mineral water. Crystal Geyser is spring water from Mount Shasta in the United States, which is a sacred place for Native American water.
We drank tea with this famous water representing America, and then all of us tasted only the hot water.
This is an hour-long meeting with no delivery of the tea performance by me, just light and voice throughout.

2021.02.27 オンライン茶会「夜咄」
2月27日、ニューヨークの自宅から主にニューヨークと日本を繋ぐオンライン茶会を開催しました。日本は夜の8時、ニューヨークは朝の6時スタートです。日本は満月の夜、ニューヨークはちょうど日の出を迎えるタイミングに合わせて実施しました。
約40名の方々にご参加いただきました。
数年前に「White scape」という茶会を開催しました広島廿日市にあるアートギャラリーミヤウチとの企画です。
その流れで、ご正客はアートギャラリーミヤウチの
今井 みはる
さんをお招きしました。オンラインのためこの度は光と風と水を共有することで、一座建立の風情を出しました。
スマホやタブレットの画面に夜咄の和蝋燭やニューヨーク中心地のタイムズスクエアのライブ映像などを配信し、参加者の方は、その光を壁に当て、鑑賞します。
和蝋燭の光の揺れを通して、ニューヨークの風の雰囲気も感じていただけます。
お茶は各自、抹茶なり、煎茶なり好きなものをご用意いただきましたが、水は「クリスタルガイザー」のミネラルウォーターを指定しました。クリスタルガイザーはアメリカのシャスタ山の湧水で、ここはネイティブアメリカンの水の聖地です。
このアメリカを代表する名水で茶を飲み、その後、名水点で白湯だけを全員で堪能しました。
亭主の点前は配信せず、終始、光と声のもてなしで、１時間の会です。
